What Remains: Grief, Memory, and the Power of Stories to Transform Us
Set in haunted houses, hidden societies, viral literary scandals, and magical libraries, four authors of upcoming fiction books explore characters grappling with what remains after loss—parents, reputations, institutions, and selves forever changed. Through speculative elements and literary realism, the discussion examines how stories preserve memory, foster connection, and help us survive grief. Attendees will gain insight into how contemporary fiction reimagines loss and why these narratives resonate deeply with today’s readers.

Quogue Library Author Summer Series | Quogue, NY
Summer in the Hamptons? Yes, please.
Debut novelist Michelle Maryk will discuss The Found Object Society with writer, actor, producer, and critic Andrew Botsford. Listed by People Magazine as Best Books of February 2026, Maryk’s novel follows members of an elite secret society who pay an exorbitant fee to experience the death of another person without actually dying themselves. This atmospheric, genre-bending debut blends speculative suspense with emotional depth. Critics have hailed it as “wickedly smart and wildly creative.” A great summer read.
Program begins at 5:00 PM followed by a reception with book sales and signing.
